The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) formally established the Central America Regional (CAR) office, based in Guatemala, in 2005. In addition to Guatemala the regional office also covers Panama, Belize, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Honduras, and Nicaragua.
