The SCORE global report, 2020 is the first ever global assessment on the capacity of health information systems in 133 countries, covering 87% of the world’s population. It shows that, while much progress has been made, many countries are still insufficiently resourced and critical data are lacking to monitor progress towards the health-related SDGs and WHO’s Triple Billion targets. For example, 4 in 10 deaths worldwide remain unregistered and more than two-thirds of low-income countries have yet to establish a standardized system to report causes of death. These gaps have been highlighted by COVID-19, along with the urgent need to invest in stronger data and health information systems for future preparedness and response. With the information provided in the SCORE global report, countries and partners can now precisely address data gaps using the tools and interventions from the SCORE for Health Data Technical Package. This report was produced in collaboration with Bloomberg Philanthropies.
