What is the WHO EDL for a better access to diagnostics?

Access to affordable, good quality diagnostics has proven difficult in resource-poor settings. Many countries still lack even the most basic diagnostic tools resulting in an unnecessary burden in terms of human suffering and on the healthcare system. The World Health Organization Model List of Essential in vitro Diagnostics or EDL, is an evidence-based resource that any country can use to help prioritize diagnostics tests that should be available at each level of the healthcare system. This video describes the current challenges and how the EDL can help countries.

  1. What they even failed to mention that, in some countries; this is widespread that, many physicians (for direct or indirect benefits from the diagnostic centers) prescribe unnecessary tests and cause huge cost burden…
